On April 4, 2014, Norma Bastidas crossed the border from Mexico into the U.S. and passed the half-way mark of her 3,500 mile triathlon. Marisol was trafficked across the border when she was 13, and later spent 17 years in prison for a murder her trafficker committed. Marisol is one of Norma’s inspirations for setting this record. Norma met Marisol when she “Ran Home” from Vancouver to Mazatlan to combat domestic abuse and sexual violence in 2012. Norma and Marisol completed the Tijuana marathon together in 2013. Every person who crosses the border has a unique story to tell. Norma’s crossing is symbolic of Marisol’s and countless others who have walked this path before her. Be Relentless will: Capture the conversation and empower communities across the US, Mexico and beyond to join the fight against human trafficking. Create an Opportunity Fund for survivors in Mexico and the United States to help them achieve restoration and pursue their dreams. Protect vulnerable children through bilingual curricula and outreach.
